Destroyed Writing (Zerstörte Schriften)
A typewriter, extended toward the back by an attached panel, sits on a table. Fixed upon this extended panel are a paper roll and a paper shredder; the panel is connected to the typewriter’s carriage, moving along with it side to side whenever a key is pressed.
Unlike digital devices, a typewriter is a tool where the movement of the hand instantly translates into characters, and those characters immediately become traces on paper. Unlike text that hovers on a screen, capable of being saved or erased, words typed here possess a singular, physical reality the moment they are imprinted on the paper.
The performance unfolds as the performer sits on the chair and begins typing. What is transferred onto the paper are primarily unspoken emotions. The paper shredder automatically turns on and off at irregular intervals. Although it is impossible to predict when it will operate, and knowing that it will be erased again after experiencing a first erasure, the writing continuously moves forward onto the paper. The words thus written exist only up until the very moment before they are shredded. When the paper roll is completely exhausted and no further recording is possible, the performer stands up and leaves the space.
The hand that seeks to leave a trace despite knowing it will be erased, and the machine that erases it, move together within a single mechanism.

탁자 위에는 뒤쪽으로 판을 덧대어 확장한 타자기가 놓여 있다. 확장된 판 위에는 종이 롤과 문서파쇄기가 고정되어 있으며, 이 판은 좌우로 움직이는 타자기의 캐리지(carriage)에 연결되어 타이핑할 때마다 함께 움직인다.
타자기는 디지털 기기와 달리 손의 움직임이 곧바로 활자로, 활자가 곧바로 종이 위의 흔적으로 이어지는 도구다. 화면 위에 떠 있다가 저장하거나 지울 수 있는 텍스트와 달리, 여기서 쓰인 글자는 종이에 새겨지는 순간 이미 물리적 실체를 갖는다.
작가는 의자에 앉아 타이핑 한다. 종이 위에 옮겨지는 것은 주로 말하지 못한 감정들이다. 문서파쇄기는 불규칙한 간격으로 자동으로 켜지고 꺼진다. 언제 작동할지는 알 수 없지만, 한 번 지워짐을 겪고 나면 다시 지워질 것을 알면서도 작가는 글을 종이에 써내려 나간다. 그렇게 쓰인 글은 오직 파쇄되기 직전까지만 존재한다. 종이 롤이 모두 소진되어 더 이상 기록할 수 없을 때, 자리에서 일어나 공간을 떠난다.
지워질 것을 알면서 남기려는 손과, 그것을 지우는 기계가 하나의 장치 안에서 함께 움직인다.
